conservation, information, and entertainment.

Information on fly fishing is widely available on the webbernet. The problem is, half of it contradicts the other. While it is true that angling is an art, and approaches are largely personal, we hope to help de-mystify the often daunting world of fly fishing jargon for the beginner, and to provide thought provoking articles that will inspire even veteran fly casters to achieve new heights of angling prowess and fun!

Henrys Lake Yellowstone Cutthroat

Idaho has long been a paradise of American fly fishing, not least due to the fact that our state is blessed with more miles of river than any other state in the Union. It is paramount that we protect this natural heritage. We support the aims of organizations such as Trout Unlimited, Westfly, and SouthForkBoise.org.

Lastly, we hope to provide a place where people can share their crazy fishing stories, pictures, and videos. After all, half the fun of fishing is when you get to share the inevitable, "one that got away," story, or the classic, "How I lost my $5000 bamboo rod (hand-made by left-handed virgins at the stroke of midnight under a full moon, naturally...) to a freak volcanic eruption."

Now that you know what anglersid.com is, let us take a moment to clarify what it is not...

Anglers ID is not:

A big operation; this site was created, and is written and maintained, (so far) by one man.

(Yeah, I know, in those paragraphs above I used the 'business 3rd person' perspective, but that's just tradition, it sounds sophomoric to write your mission statement using the pronoun 'I' all the way through.) If you want to get technical, my girlfriend is also involved, in a sort of philosophical, kind of "I like fly fishing too, and I'm with you in spirit" way, but, umm yeah, it's pretty much just me, so far.

Another one of those annoying sites that has 700 ads, and 2 sentences of useless or unoriginal information; One big frustration for folks searching the web for information on fly fishing is the multitude of marketing/spam sites that show up in popular search engines. Unfortunately, a lot of this is due to those questionable "Work from Home" companies who preach that you will make a million dollars using keywords and fancy-pants geo-locator sservices to blanket search engines with useless garbage. If you land on one of these sites, do us all a favor, don't click anything. Many of these sites get paid $x if you so much as click on one of their ads, and their ads are often disguised as a useful link. If we ignore them, they will go away, eventually. This site was created to add one more useful site on the subject of fly fishing to the wild wacky world of the interweb, and the only Idaho specific site of it's kind that we are aware of.

A place where we have lured you to make you give up the location of your favorite honey hole. We're not asking you to tell us where you went fishing. The down side of the internet's information explosion is that some of the last truly pristine places get a heck of a lot more traffic after one person whispers about it on the internet. We will always give you the option to defer the naming of the place you are reporting about, in fact, we encourage you not to give away the keys to the last best places. We don't want to share our semi-secret spots, and we don't want to have to see you drink that cheap beer you like.

A place trolls or spammers. Bigotry, of any stripe, is not tolerated here. Risque language on the forums is OK, but keep it to a dull roar, no really 'bad' words, please. Now, we understand the words themselves are innocent, and it is the intent behind the words that make them good or bad.

Very limited paid advertising will be available, if you are a registered non-profit organization, contact us to get your ads for free. If you have a blog or a site which doesn't advertise extensively, or is not at all commercial, you may put links in your profile, use your judgment. Spam is like pornography, it's hard to define, but you know it when you see it. If we see it posted by any of our users, they will get one chance to cease, desist, and correct their conduct, and then we will ban them permanently and with extreme prejudice. 2 strikes with spam and you're out; because we hate spam and we don't know anything about baseball except it keeps people from fishing.

~Thank you, because if you actually read this, you are an exceptionally intelligent and good-looking human being, or incredibly lonely, bored, and should probably be fishing instead; contact me us you have an empty seat!
